Regional Innovation for a Circular Economy (RICE) is catalysing the circular economy in the Barwon South West
A thriving circular economy in the Barwon South West
Our vision is to lead the growth of a thriving circular economy in the Barwon South West region of Victoria, which will reduce pressure on the environment, boost economic growth and create jobs.
Regional Innovation for a Circular Economy (RICE) was established in 2019 through the interest of several key partners including BSWWRRG, Regional Development Victoria, City of Greater Geelong, Geelong Manufacturing Council, AusIndustry, CSIRO and Deakin University’s Institute of Frontier Materials and in 2021 formed into a Incorporated Association.

A catalyst for innovation, connections and support.
Our mission is to lead the transition to a thriving regional circular economy, by being a catalyst for innovation and a concierge to connect and coordinate support from and for relevant organizations.
Our roadmap for future direction
Signposting existing educational resources and support (online) and developing regional-specific content and cases studies; running events.
Identifying key stakeholders in supporting the growth of a circular economy in the region and inviting them to join the RICE network; connecting with other regional groups e.g. Hunter Circular, and identifying synergies and opportunities for collaboration.
Identifying circular opportunities, connecting collaborators and undertaking pilot projects.
Ensuring that RICE aligns with key state and federal policies; advocating for circular economy to be considered in policy and planning.

RICE is actively bringing people together to change thinking and catalyse action – making things happen in our drive to a circular economy.
RICE was established as a separate incorporated entity in March 2021, with a committee to manage its establishment and activities.
